We came across an article on internships, courtesy of StudentAdvisor, and one on volunteer work, courtesy of Sapristi on HubPages. It go us thinking – what can job candidates do to stand out in the crowd.

As mentioned in the article – volunteering is a great and efficient way to not only add items to your resume, but mingle and network while doing it. Choose a organization and a cause you are interested in and check for volunteering opportunities. If the one you have your eye on doesn’t provide such opportunities check their community partners. Here are two websites to get you started - http://www.volunteermatch.org/ and http://volunteer.truist.com/ An afternoon of helping out can turn into invaluable networking contact.

Internships take some focused search and are time-consuming, however the benefits far outweigh the effort. Some internships, depending on the field are paid, some are not. In both cases, they provide a great opportunity to get your foot in the door. Companies usually promote internally, so if you prove your value to the business there is a good chance you will have a job offer at the end of it. College students should contact their Career Services department. Schools provide career counseling, resume writing and mock interviews for both their current students as well as alumni. Don’t be hesitant to invest the time and effort – there are no shortcuts to any place worth going.

Driver Requirements:

The following qualifications are required for consideration for this position:

*High School diploma (equivalent may be considered); college, technical or trade school education desired.

*Current Commercial Driver’s License, with HAZMAT and Tanker endorsements required, Double/Triple endorsements desired.

*Experience related to crude oil trucking and loading and unloading crude oil is strongly desired, but similar relevant experience may be considered

*Successful candidates will likely have off-road and extreme cold weather trucking experience, as up to 85% of driving is off-road; this is NOT a long haul trucking position.

*Clean driving record (no DUI/DWI in previous 3 years)

*DOT drug and alcohol screening, DOT physical, 10 year FMCSA employment and safety background and 7 year criminal background check

*Passing road test and demonstrating proficiency operating an 18-speed truck

*Exceptional oral and written communication skills, measuring and mathematical skills and strong computer proficiency are all required for success in this position.
